Sanju Samson has entered record books by scoring the fastest fifty by an Indian batter against Bangladesh, achieving the milestone in just 22 balls during the third T20I held in Hyderabad. He successfully surpassed the previous record held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who scored a 23-ball fifty against Bangladesh in 2019.

Under fire Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson stepped into the final T20I against Bangladesh at Hyderabad with aggressive intent to prove himself. After scoring just 39 runs in the first two games, Samson was given an extra opportunity for game 3, which he grabbed with both hands.

Sanju Samson achieves special milestone with mad innings

Despite the early wicket of opening partner Abhishek Sharma, Samson continued his assault with Suryakumar Yadav. The duo had a 150+ run partnership, with Sanju Samson getting to his fifty in just 22 balls, thus setting up a new record for himself.

The wicket-keeper bettered Rohit Sharma’s previous record to score the fastest fifty by any Indian batter against Bangladesh. He achieved the milestone in 22 balls, whereas Rohit took 23 balls during a T20I in Rajkot held in 2019.

In addition, Samson went on to score a blistering hundred off just 40 balls, thus strengthening his case for regular selection in the national team.

Samson lights up Hyderabad with a surreal boundary spree

Sanju Samson was in no mood to show mercy to Bangladeshi bowlers as his place on the national team was on the line. The centurion hit a rally of boundaries to terrorise the opposition bowling attack.

After hitting Taskin Ahmed for four consecutive boundaries, Samson went after Rishad Hossain to slam as many as five straight sixes in the 10th over of the first innings. Indeed, the century came as a relief for Sanju Samson, who had been struggling to convert his promising starts into big scores for a while.
