England completed a remarkable win over Pakistan at Multan inside the first session of Day 5 to take a 1-0 lead in their three-match Test series.

Here’s the timeline of how PAK vs ENG panned out in Multan:

PAK vs ENG Highlights: Agha Salman, Jamal Defy With Wicketless Opening Hour

Overnight batter Agha Salman brought up his second fifty-plus score of the match, and completed his 100-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Aamer Jamal before the first drinks break. Resuming the innings at 152-6, Pakistan cautiously reached 189-6 after the opening hour of play to find themselves another 78 runs away from England.

While Salman reached 61* at the time of the first break, fellow overnight batter Aamer Jamal was approaching a half-century of his own at 44*. Their partnership swelled to 107 runs after they had joined forces on the fourth evening at a precarious 82-6.

PAK vs ENG Highlights: Jack Leach Wraps Up Pakistani Tail Before Lunch

English spinner Jack Leach made instant impact after the drinks break by trapping half-centurion Agha Salman in front of stumps. Salman challenged the decision but to no avail and had to make a long walk back to the sheds after top-scoring for his side with a fluent 84-ball 63.

Aamer Jamal brought up his second Test fifty and helped Pakistan cross the 200-run mark alongside tailender Shaheen Afridi. With Jamal batting at 55* off 104 balls, Pakistan reached 214-7 in 54 overs.

Leach, in his extensive spell, dismissed Shaheen and number 10 Naseem Shah in the space of just four deliveries at an expense of a six before a sick Abrar Ahmed remained absent hurt. Leach’s three-wicket burst helped him claim astonishing figures of 4-30, as England skittled out the hosts for just 220 in 54.5 overs.

England sealed the Test match by an innings and 47 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Remarkably, they became the first team in history to win a Test by an innings after having conceded over 500 runs in the first innings.
