Islamabad United put on a masterclass in Match 5 of PSL 2025 in Rawalpindi on Monday as they crushed Peshawar Zalmi by 102 runs in what turned out to be a one-sided affair. Led by a stunning century from Sahibzada Farhan and a clinical all-round bowling performance, United racked up a mammoth 243/5 before bundling out Zalmi for just 141 in 18.2 overs.

While Mohammad Haris tried to wage a lone battle with a stunning 87, it was too little, too late. From blazing boundaries to clever bowling changes, Islamabad ticked every box in what was a statement win early in the season by the defending champions.

Here’s the timeline of how IU vs PZ panned out in Rawalpindi-

Sahibzada Farhan Explodes At The Top

Islamabad United were off to a flyer, thanks to a breathtaking knock from Sahibzada Farhan, who looked in complete control right from the word go. Even though Andries Gous was run out early, Farhan wasted no time finding his rhythm.

He reached his fifty in just 26 balls and raced to his hundred in 49 deliveries, eventually finishing with a stunning 106 off 52 balls, packed with 13 fours and 5 sixes. Farhan’s timing, placement and aggression set the tone as United crossed 150 in under 13 overs.

Colin Munro And Middle-Order Muscle It Through

While Sahibzada Farhan was the engine, Colin Munro played the perfect supporting role with 40 off 27 balls, building a solid 100-run stand for the second wicket. The duo added 100 runs in just 52 balls, putting immense pressure on Peshawar’s bowlers.

After Munro’s dismissal, Azam Khan (16 off 9) and Salman Agha (30 off 15) chipped in with cameos that kept the scoreboard ticking at a brisk pace. Agha’s quickfire knock, which included 2 sixes and 2 fours, came at a strike rate of 200.

Jason Holder And Ben Dwarshuis Finish With Fireworks

The last few overs were all about Jason Holder and Ben Dwarshuis turning up the heat. Holder stayed unbeaten on 20 off 11, while Dwarshuis launched a brutal assault with 18* off just 6 ball. Their partnership in the death overs took United well past the 240-mark, as they racked up 243/5 in 20 overs.

Babar Azam Fails Yet Again As Top Order Collapses

Peshawar Zalmi’s chase of a mammoth 244 got off to the worst possible start as Babar Azam fell for just 1 in the very first over off Ben Dwarshuis. It set the tone for what turned into a top-order meltdown. Saim Ayub, Mitchell Owen, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore followed in quick succession as Islamabad’s bowlers came out firing.

At one point, Zalmi were reeling at 26/3 in under four overs and the required rate had already shot beyond 14 an over. Naseem Shah, Imad Wasim, and Dwarshuis kept the pressure on with disciplined lines and smart variations, giving Zalmi no breathing room in the powerplay.

Mohammad Haris Lone Warrior In A Losing Cause

While the wickets kept tumbling around him, Mohammad Haris played a sensational knock that stood out like a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy chase. The young wicketkeeper-batter smashed 87 off 47 balls, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes, showing immense fight.

He took on both pace and spin with equal confidence, even bringing up his half-century in just 28 balls. But with no real support from the other end, the task became too tall.

Once Haris fell in the 17th over, the game was all but over. Zalmi folded for 141 in 18.2 overs and handed Islamabad United a thumping 102-run win.
