India Women extended their dominance over Pakistan Women with a six-wicket victory in Match 7 of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. In a tense low-scoring thriller at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, India emerged victorious to continue their winning streak in the rivalry.

Here’s the timeline of how IND-W vs PAK-W panned out in Dubai-

IND-W vs PAK-W Highlights: Renuka Singh Strikes Early as Pakistan Women Stumble in Powerplay

Pakistan Women won the toss and opted to bat, but their start was far from ideal. Renuka Singh made an immediate impact, sending Gul Feroza packing for a four-ball duck in the very first over. Sidra Ameen and Muneeba Ali attempted to stabilise the innings, but Ameen fell for just eight in the fifth over, leaving Pakistan at a modest 29/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Arundhati Reddy then joined the party, dismissing Omaima Sohail for a mere three runs. Muneeba Ali, struggling to find her rhythm, was stumped after a scratchy 17 off 26 balls.

Pakistan's top order crumbled like a house of cards, failing to withstand India's bowling onslaught.

IND-W vs PAK-W Highlights: Nida Dar Fights As Indian Bowlers Dominate

With wickets falling like dominoes, Nida Dar and Aliya Riaz tried to salvage Pakistan’s innings. However, Reddy was in no mood to relent, trapping Aliya Riaz leg-before for just four. Skipper Fatima Sana provided a brief spark, scoring 13 off eight balls before Asha Shobana removed her in the 14th over. Tuba Hassan followed soon after, leaving Pakistan Women reeling at 77/7.

Dar, though, held her ground and, alongside Syeda Aroob Shah, stitched together a crucial partnership of 28 runs. But just as Pakistan hoped to finish with a flourish, Dar fell for 28 in the final over.

Syeda’s unbeaten 14 helped Pakistan Women scrape to a total of 105/8, a score that seemed well below par on this surface. India’s bowlers fired on all cylinders, with each of the five bowlers chipping in with wickets.

Arundhati Reddy bowled a spell that would make any captain proud, registering impressive figures of 3/19 in her four overs. Shreyanka Patil was equally stingy, bagging two wickets for just 12 runs, including a maiden, keeping Pakistan Women under the pump.

IND-W vs PAK-W Highlights: Smriti Mandhana Falters Again

India’s chase of 106 started cautiously, with openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana trying to get a feel for the conditions against Pakistan’s Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal.

However, after managing only 7 runs off 16 balls, Mandhana was dismissed in the fifth over, leaving India at 18/1. Despite the early hiccup, India crawled to 25/1 at the end of the powerplay, setting up a tricky chase ahead.

IND-W vs PAK-W Highlights: Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues Steady the Ship

Following Mandhana's departure, Jemimah Rodrigues joined Shafali Verma at the crease, and the duo began to rebuild cautiously.

Rodrigues played the anchor role, rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking without taking unnecessary risks, while Verma capitalized on the occasional loose ball. The pair stitched together a 43-run partnership that appeared to have put India in the driver’s seat.

However, the partnership came to an abrupt end when Verma, trying to break free, holed out at long-on off Omaima Sohail’s bowling. Her 32 off 35 balls was a solid foundation, but with Verma’s departure, Pakistan sensed a chance to swing the momentum back in their favor.

IND-W vs PAK-W Highlights: Fatima Sana Strikes but Harmanpreet Stays Calm Under Pressure

Just when it seemed India was cruising, Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana returned to the attack and wreaked havoc. In the 16th over, she dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues for 23 off 28 balls, and on the very next delivery, sent Richa Ghosh packing for a golden duck.

It was a bolt from the blue moment for India, reducing them to 80/4 and leaving the equation at 26 runs needed off 27 balls. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur kept her cool in the face of adversity.

With Deepti Sharma at the other end, Kaur ensured that the scoreboard kept ticking with singles and doubles, slowly inching towards the target. Kaur's unbeaten 29 off 24 balls proved to be the calm amid the storm. She had to retire hurt at the end but Deepti and S Sajana guided India Women to a six-wicket win with seven balls to spare.
