Shafali Verma is one of the most talented young batters in world cricket and can destroy any bowling attack when she is on song. However, she has the knack of throwing away her wicket after a good start and she did exactly that in the big encounter against Pakistan in Women's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. 

Shafali scored 32 runs off 35 balls and displayed good application after the loss of Smriti Mandhana early in the innings. Pakistan batted first and scored just 105 and it was expected that India would chase the target easily. However, the pitch in Dubai is a difficult one, and Indian batters too found it difficult to score freely. Shafali adjusted to the conditions and played cautiously, but her patience ran out in the 12th over and she went for a big hit which led to her downfall.

Omaima Sohail Ends Shafali's Resistance

It was the fifth delivery of the over and Omaima Sohail tossed it up on off. Shafali Verma danced down the track and tried to power it over long on. She did not time it perfectly though, and ended up giving a straightforward catch to Aliya Riaz at long on. She took an easy catch and Pakistan got an important breakthrough.

In the 16th over, India lost two more wickets as Pakistan skipper Faitma Sana bagged two wickets in a row to put India in a spot of bother in a tricky run-chase. India lost their opening game of the World Cup against New Zealand and need to win their all remaining matches to keep their realistic hopes of qualifying for the semis alive.
