India clinched a commanding seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first T20I of the three-game series in Gwalior. India bowled brilliantly to restrict Bangladesh to 127 runs. Moreover,  Bangladesh were never allowed an opportunity to come back into the game as India's top three batters scored 71 runs in the powerplay. Hardik Pandya provided the finishing touch of 39 runs to seal India’s dominant victory in just 11.5 overs.

Here’s the timeline of how IND Vs BAN panned out in Gwalior:

IND vs BAN 1st T20I Highlights: Varun Chakravarthy’s Fine Comeback Shocks Bangladesh

Suryakumar Yadav won the coin flip contest and elected to bowl first. His bowlers were right on the money as Arshdeep Singh got the perfect start with early wickets of openers Litton Das and Parvez Hossain Emon. Varun Chakravarthy, making his comeback to the national side after three years, deceived Towhid Hridoy with a sharp 98.9 kph to induce a top edge that went straight to Hardik Pandya’s safe hands at long-on.

It was then time for debutant Mayank Yadav to sparkle his magic. He grabbed his maiden international wicket by dismissing veteran Mahmudullah with a 146.1kph fiery delivery. Besides Mehidy Hasan’s 35 off 32 balls, no Bangladeshi batter surpassed the 30-run mark as the Bangla Tigers were bowled out for 127 runs.

IND Vs BAN 1st T20I Highlights: SKY-Sanju Partnership Sets Tone For India

The chase was a cakewalk, but the Indian batters made it look easier than it already seemed. Despite Abishek Sharma’s early wicket on 25, opener Sanju Samson and captain Suryakumar Yadav stitched a 40-run partnership, with the latter smoking 3 sixes in his 14-ball stay at the crease. India had 71 runs on the board at the end of the powerplay. However, Sanju couldn’t convert his promising start into a big score as he misjudged Mehidy Hasan’s drifter to hole out to deep-mid wicket.

IND Vs BAN 1st T20I Highlights: Hardik Pandya’s Assault Steers To Inspiring Victory

Once SKY was undone by Mustafizur at 29 (14), debutant Nitish Reddy took his time in the middle. However, Hardik Pandya was in a hurry. It took him 16 balls to not only score 39 runs but also wrap up India’s chase in 11.5 overs. Taskin Ahmed was rammed for 44 runs in 2.5 overs, whereas Mustafizur Rahman also bowled an expensive spell of 1/36 in 3 overs.

With that dominant display of batting, India secured 1-0 lead in the three-game T20I series. The series will resume on October 9 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
