Team India mounted 172-3 from 20 overs in their must-win Group A match of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and her deputy Smriti Mandhana whacked splendid half-centuries, while young opening batter Shafali Verma also belted a swift 43 at the top of the order.
India’s monumental batting effort now stands at the top among the highest totals of the tournament, considering the ‘Women in Blue’ surpassed South Africa’s batting dominance against Scotland on October 9.

Team India smacked 172-3 against Sri Lanka in their must-win match of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. The total helped the ‘Women in Blue’ record the highest team score of the tournament, surpassing South Africa’s 166-5 against Scotland earlier on the same day in Dubai.

Indian openers Shafali Verma (43 off 40) and Smriti Mandhana (50 off 38) started off the proceedings with a brisk 98-run partnership in less than 13 overs. Both cricketers fell off successive deliveries as the Sri Lankan team clawed its way back into the game.
Thereafter, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur pounded eight boundaries and a six to pump out 52 unbeaten runs from just 27 deliveries. She belted two off those boundaries of the last two balls to blaze her team to a competitive 172-3 from 20 overs.
Earlier in the tournament, the Indian team incurred a huge 58-run loss to New Zealand, before bouncing back against Pakistan with a six-wicket win.
