The industrious opening batsman faced 99 deliveries to chart his 97-run knock to mark the 36th half-century of his ODI career. He belted 10 boundaries and three sixes in the process and was involved in a 119-run opening stand with Shubman Gill.
The left-hander’s innings also made him the oldest Indian captain to register a 50-plus score in ODI cricket, surpassing former skipper Mohammad Azharuddin. Sunil Gavaskar, MS Dhoni and active full-time captain Rohit Sharma constitute the top five list for the record.
