West Indies Women beat Bangladesh Women [Source: @wiplayers/x.com]
West Indies Women lived to fight another day after pulling off a nervy three-wicket win over high-flying Bangladesh in Match 11 of the 2025 Women’s World Cup Qualifier in Lahore. While Bangladesh looked like they had one foot in the World Cup, this result means they will have to wait a little longer.
Bangladesh Fumble After Strong Start
It all looked smooth sailing for Bangladesh Women when they cruised to 134/1 by the 28th over. Sharmin Akhtar was flying on 67 and Fargana Haque looked steady on 42. But then came the twist.
Aaliyah Alleyne broke the stand and turned the game with two wickets in the same over. From there, it was a full-on collapse. The middle order crumbled as Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher joined the party with two wickets apiece.
Bangladesh somehow crawled to 227/9, thanks to a fighting 9th-wicket stand of 31 between Nahida Akter (25) and Rabeya Khan (23* off 20). But from the position they were in, it was a big letdown.
Henry Rises As West Indies Chase Down 228
West Indies’ reply had its fair share of drama. After an early push by Qiana Joseph (31) and Shemaine Campbelle (24), they lost momentum. But Stafanie Taylor (36) and Matthews (33) stitched a 66-run stand to keep things in check.
Even then, it came down to the wire. With wickets tumbling, it was Chinelle Henry’s unbeaten 51 off 48 balls that proved to be the difference. She held her nerve, smashed Rabeya for a four and six, and made sure the West Indies crossed the line with four overs to spare.
Alleyne, who picked up 4/39, was named Player of the Match for her game-changing spell. She even hit the boundary that brought scores level before getting out.
What This Means For Qualification
West Indies can still qualify for the 2025 Women’s World Cup, but they will need a bit of luck. With 4 points from 4 games, the most they can finish with is 6, a number both Bangladesh and Pakistan have already reached. Their only realistic hope now is for Thailand to beat Pakistan in their final group match.
If that happens, Pakistan will remain on 6 points, creating a three-way tie between Bangladesh, Pakistan, and West Indies. Qualification would then come down to net run rate, giving West Indies a fighting chance to sneak into the top two.
