Watch | MNS workers attack IPL team bus for not giving transport contracts to local traders

With India Premier League (IPL) 2022 just a few days away, an unfortunate event took place on Tuesday. Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) party workers attacked and vandalized a bus that was being used in the IPL 2022. The vandalized vehicle was used as a team bus by the Delhi Capitals side.

A case was registered at the Colaba police station in Mumbai, after which the Mumbai Police took Prashant Gandhi, Santosh Jadhav, and another person in custody. Such events create a sense of fear and are not what teams want ahead of the start of the mega league.

ANI reported that an FIR has been registered against 5-6 unknown persons under sections 143, 147, 149, 427 of IPC. One can hope that strict action is taken against the offenders and such a situation is not repeated again.

We know that the bus belonged to the Delhi Capitals side as DC’s motto ‘We Roar Together’ was written on the glass of the bus. However, the images and videos clearly show the condition of the bus, and it is not something that will impress cricket fans.

Maharashtra Vahatuk Sena – transport wing of MNS – the attack was carried out for allegedly ignoring local bus traders. Sources say that the MNS workers were upset as the contract to pick up and drop IPL players was not given to a local trader.

All the matches of IPL 2022 will be played at three stadiums in Mumbai – Wankhede, Brabourne & DY Patil – and one stadium in Pune – MCA Stadium. Thus, the teams would be making extensive use of bus transport during the entire tournament. Such events can lead to significant disruption, and the board will have to take preventive measures to avoid such a scenario in the future.

IPL 2022 begins on March 26 with a game between the Chennai Super Kings and the Kolkata Knight Riders. It is a repeat of the final clash of the last season, where the Chennai-based team had finished on top.
