Ajinkya Rahane, who recently made a stellar comeback to India's Test side, has conceded that there is still a lot of cricket left in him. He has been appointed as the vice-captain of India for the upcoming series against the West Indies.

Speaking ahead of the first Test in Dominica, Rahane was asked about being given the vice-captaincy once again. Rahane said he is used to the role and is happy to be back on the Indian Test side.

Here’s what Rahane said

"I'm used to this role. I was a vice-captain for almost four or five years. But I'm really happy to be back in the team. I'm really happy to be back as a vice-captain. I'm used to this role."

When asked about his stellar comeback to the team, Rahane said that he is still young and a lot of cricket is left in him. The Mumbai batter further added that he feels much more confident and enjoys batting.

"I'm still young. I still have a lot of cricket left in me. The IPL season was good, the domestic season was also good. Batting-wise, I feel a lot more confident. In the last one and a half years, I worked on my fitness and some other key points."

Upon hearing this from Rahane, the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, burst into laughter. Later, the India opener also posed a couple of questions to Ajinkya Rahane, one of which focused on his experiences playing in the West Indies in the past, to which he replied:

"I'm enjoying my cricket at the moment. I'm enjoying my batting as well. I don't want to think ahead a lot. For now, every match is important, personally and from the perspective of the team. So, I'm focusing on that."

Ajinkya Rahane's comeback to Indian Test side

After being sidelined from the Test team for nearly 17 months, Rahane made a remarkable comeback with an outstanding Ranji Trophy season and also clinched the IPL 2023 title with the Chennai Super Kings.

Rahane displayed an awe-inspiring performance for CSK in the IPL 2023, and it earned him a well-deserved spot in the squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval last month.

Not just this, Ajinkya Rahane also proved the trust and faith that the Indian management and selectors had shown in him, as he was the best batter from the Indian camp in the WTC final against Australia.

The 34-year-old scored 89 and 46 runs in the first and second innings, respectively, but it all went in vain as India lost the WTC final against Australia. However, Rahane's stellar performance paved the way for him, earning him a call-up for the West Indies tour.
