As India's cricket tour of West Indies approaches its commencement, the visiting team, led by Rohit Sharma, are prepping hard for the first Test in Dominica that gets underway on Wednesday. The excitement has now peaked as the players will be sporting a new jersey for the two-match Test series.

Team India unveils new jersey ahead of first Test vs West Indies

Recently, pictures of the players clad in the new India jerseys have been making rounds online. The avant-garde jerseys, emblazoned with three distinct blue stripes on the shoulders, showcase the imprints of the kit sponsor Adidas and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the front.

However, the logo of Dream11, the team's new sponsor, printed boldly in the jersey's middle, claims the limelight. As pictures of the new Indian jersey ricocheted across the internet, the public response has been predominantly negative.

Fans seem displeased with the prominent presence of Dream11's logo. The redesigned kit sparked intense comparisons with past Indian Jerseys, underscoring their strong emotions.

Here’s a look at a few reactions:

This redesign is the upshot of the BCCI's lucrative three-year sponsorship agreement inked with fantasy sports gaming giant Dream11. The announcement released by the board designated Dream11 as the Indian cricket team's principal sponsor, necessitating a jersey makeover.

This change came on the heels of prematurely severing the jersey sponsorship accord with ed-tech firm Byju's in March 2023. The unveiling of the new jersey notwithstanding, the team's focus remains on the upcoming Test series against West Indies.

The series signifies not only the onset of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle but also provides a valuable warm-up for the team ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, set to be played in India later this year.

Under head coach Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma’s leadership, the Indian squad is preparing for a gruelling tour involving two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. Interestingly, two of the T20Is are staged in Lauderhill, Florida, extending the cricketing frenzy to the United States of America.
