As World Cup 2023 unfolds, the Pakistan team seems to be stirring up a culinary contest off the pitch, diving deep into the age-old debate: Hyderabadi or Karachi biryani?


Pakistan players weigh in on famous Hyderbadi biryani

Having landed in India for the mega event, the team recently savoured the renowned Hyderabadi delicacy and weighed it against their traditional Karachi counterpart. 

The International Cricket Council (ICC) captured these moments and shared a glimpse of the players' favourite biryanis on their Instagram handle.

Captain Babar Azam diplomatically found both biryanis delightful but noted the spicy kick in the Hyderabadi dish. In stark contrast, fast bowler Hasan Ali did not hold back, candidly preferring Hyderabad's version over Karachi's. 

Meanwhile, teammates Imam ul Haq and Haris Rauf chose not to pick sides but heaped praise on the Hyderabadi Biryani.

Furthermore, the Pakistan squad indulged in a team dinner to commemorate their stay in Hyderabad, exploring various local dishes. This gastronomic adventure was documented with the PCB posting a video of the team dinner on their official social media channels.

However, amid this, Pakistan's on-field endeavours seemed slightly off-spice. The 'Men in Green' succumbed to defeats in both their warm-up matches, with New Zealand and Australia besting them by five wickets and 14 runs, respectively.

Unflinched by these setbacks, the Babar Azam-led team will aim to script history. With eyes set on lifting the ODI World Cup trophy for the first time in three decades, they will kick-start their campaign against the Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 6. 

Fans are also keenly anticipating the electrifying India-Pakistan face-off scheduled for October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
