Shakib Al Hasan's farewell Test is in jeopardy with the news coming that the all-rounder is unwilling to return to Dhaka, because of the protest against him in the city. As per ESPNCricinfo, Shakib is still contemplating on his decision amidst the first Test Vs South Africa which commences on October 21.

Earlier, Shakib had expressed his concern regarding a return back to his home country as he felt threatened, especially with the number of Awami League leaders getting arrested since August 5, the day the ruling party officially resigned. Shakib was a member of the parliament and recently an FIR was lodged against him for an alleged murder case.

"I am not sure where I am going next, but it is almost sure that I am not going home," Shakib told ESPNCricinfo.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh announced the Test squad for the first game against South Africa. Apparently, the first Test was Shakib's farewell red-ball game, and now it looks his dream match will always stay a dream.

Interestingly, before the squad was announced, Shakib was given the green signal to join the side. He was assured of proper safety measures as threat looms large on the all-rounder. A group of students calling themselves "Mirpur Chhatro Janata" have threatened Shakib Al Hasan and informed the BCB that they will protest if Shakib plays the first Test.

Shakib's sudden decision to take red-ball retirement

Retirement wasn't on the cards for Shakib, but the abrupt decision surprised everyone. The political unrest in the nation plus various allegations against him led to the breaking point.

Moreover, Shakib's Test numbers also dropped massively, with the all-rounder failing to deliver with the bat. In the last Test series against India, he produced good numbers with the ball, but wasn't effective with the bat as India won the series, 2-0.
