India's star batter, Sanju Samson, who recently hogged the headlines after smashing his maiden T20I century against Bangladesh in the 3rd T20I, is all set to feature in red-ball cricket and will be a part of Kerala's squad for the 2nd round of Ranji Trophy 2024.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, Samson will join the Kerala squad and continue to play Ranji Trophy until next national call-up. Samson missed the first round as he was a part of India's squad for the T20I series against Bangladesh, but has started preparing for the Ranji Trophy.

Sanju Samson To Feature As A Player

However, Samson would not lead the side as Sachin Baby, who guided the team from South to an eight-run win against Punjab in the first round, will continue to be Kerala's captain.

Kerala will next face Karnataka for their second match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The four-day fixture will begin on Friday, October 18, and is slated to be held at KSCA Three Ovals Stadium, Alur, as Karnataka's home ground, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, is busy hosting New Zealand and India for the Test match.

Sanju Samson Expresses His Happiness Over Playing For Kerala

Samson is yet to play Test cricket for India and he has received a positive update on his red-ball career. Recently, Samson revealed that the Indian leadership has asked him to focus on Ranji Trophy as they are considering him for Test cricket.

‘“I believe I have the skill set to succeed in red-ball cricket, and I just don’t want to be restricted to just white-ball cricket. I desire to play Tests for India. Before the Duleep Trophy, the leadership group had told me that they were considering me for red-ball cricket and asked me to take it seriously and play more Ranji Trophy matches,’’ Samson said.

Samson was recently spotted in Duleep Trophy 2024, where he scored 196 runs in four innings that featured a century.
