The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Hamiza Mukhtar, who filed a sexual harassment case against Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam, to appear for the next hearing on December 12. This comes after Babar Azam challenged a trial court’s decision to register the case against him.

Justice Mohammad Waheed Khan, presiding over the case, extended the stay order that temporarily halts the registration of the case. Babar Azam’s legal representation is led by Barrister Haris Azmat.

Allegations Against Babar Azam

Hamiza Mukhtar has claimed that she was in a long-term relationship with Babar Azam. She alleged that she became pregnant during their relationship and that Azam pressured her into terminating the pregnancy. She further stated that Azam had assured her of marriage to resolve the situation.

Mukhtar attached medical documents to support her claims and filed an application with the police to register a First Information Report (FIR) against Azam. However, she alleged that the police were reluctant to act on her complaint.

Mukhtar later approached the court, seeking directions for the police to register an FIR against Azam for alleged blackmail and misconduct under the pretence of marriage.

The Pakistan police conducted an investigation and submitted a report to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Abid Raza Khan.

The police report revealed that “neither petitioner Hamiza nor her family members were blackmailed and harassed by police at the behest of Babar Azam’s family. So the allegation levelled by her to the extent of ‘harassing, blackmailing and pressuring’ is proved false."

The judge then dismissed Mukhtar’s petition and directed the respondents – Babar Azam’s family members and Defense-A police – to “follow the law as nobody is above the law and remain within the four corners of law and not to cause undue and unlawful harassment to the petitioner”.
