Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had a forgettable game in the 34th match of IPL 2025, losing to Punjab Kings on Friday, April 18, at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

This defeat wasn’t just another loss. It was RCB’s third straight loss at home this season and their 46th overall loss at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. With this, RCB created an unwanted IPL record – the most losses by any team at a single venue in the history of the tournament.

RCB Batting Crumbles Again

Due to a two-hour rain delay, the match was reduced to 14 overs per side. RCB was asked to bat first, but things didn’t go their way. Their top-order collapsed early – with both openers, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli, getting out while playing poor pull shots in the first three overs.

Skipper Rajat Patidar and Tim David tried to steady the innings, with David adding some runs at the end. But it wasn’t enough. RCB could only manage 95/9 in their 14 overs.

Punjab Kings Survive a Scare

Chasing a small target of 96 should have been an easy task, but Punjab Kings had their own troubles. Their openers, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, were dismissed early with just 33 runs on the board in the first four overs.

RCB’s Josh Hazlewood brought some excitement back into the game by taking two wickets in the 8th over, putting pressure on Punjab. But Nehal Wadhera kept his cool and played a mature innings to guide Punjab to victory. In the end, Punjab Kings won the match by five wickets.

Despite the loss, RCB has four wins and three losses in their seven matches so far. They currently sit at fourth place in the IPL 2025 points table with 8 points.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings are having a great season. With five wins and only two losses, they are now in second place on the table and will be looking to continue their strong run.
