The Men’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2024 will take place from October 18 to 27 in Oman, marking the first time the tournament will be held in the T20 format. The event will feature eight teams divided into two groups, with the top two sides from each group advancing to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals will then face off in the final on October 27.

For Indian cricketers vying for a place in the main squad, the tournament represents a golden opportunity to prove their mettle on an international stage. With Team India’s senior squad focused on their first Test against New Zealand starting on October 16 in Bengaluru, the BCCI is set to deploy a fresh batch of promising talent for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

Players like Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are rumored to be among those considered for India’s squad for the tournament.

In a strategic shift, the BCCI has decided to allow players older than 23 to participate in the tournament, unlike previous years, where the roster was limited to players aged 23 and under. This change comes as the board seeks to hone India’s talent pool in preparation for the T20 World Cup in 2026.

According to a BCCI source quoted by the Times of India, the senior selection committee will be choosing the team for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, and they will prioritize T20 specialists.

“The board is looking into it. The senior selection committee will be picking the team for the Emerging team this time and they will be focusing on picking players who are T20 specialists, because of the T20 World Cup in 2026. Players like Ayush Badoni, Harshit Rana, Harshit Rana, Tilak Varma and Sai Kishore could be in the Emerging India team". The source explained.

India’s 'A' side has been placed in Group B, alongside Oman, Pakistan, and the UAE. Group A consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal. India’s campaign will begin on October 18, and it promises to be an intense battle against their regional rivals.
