India are currently in Australia for the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and in the first game, the visitors pulled off an unthinkable by winning the Test. The stage is now set for the all-important Pink-ball Test at the Adelaide Oval. As always, there is lot of excitement around the game, and the nature of the pitch.
Damian Hough is the pitch curator at the Adelaide Oval, and he has now opened up on conditions that will be on offer in the second Test match. The curator mentioned that there could be rain on the opening day of the Test match and his groundstaff will be ready with the precautions. He, however, added that the weather is expected to better from Saturday which is a great news for fans expected to assemble in full numbers during the Test.
"Friday looks like it could be thunderstorms, I'm not sure exactly on the timing of those storms coming through, but we're expecting to pull covers on Friday. Hopefully it clears out on Saturday morning, then it should be good for the remainder of the Test."
Adelaide To Dish Out A Balanced Pitch
The curator also stated that the pitch is likely to be the same as it was for a Shield game recently. Also the surface is likely to have 6mm of grass on it, and Hough expressed confidence in creating a balance turf for the second Test match.
"Shield games, whether it's a red ball or a pink one, we're trying to replicate the Shield and the Test preparation ... very similar preparations. The Shield pitch showed if you didn't get a new ball under lights, and you had a couple of set batters in, you're able to see through some night-time cricket."
The day-night Test is scheduled to start on December 6, and the last time these two teams played at the Adelaide Oval, India lost the game after being bowled out for just 36 in the second innings. Also, Rohit Sharma is back as captain, but he is likely to play in the middle order with India expected to persist with KL Rahul at the top of the order.
