In 2019, Team India played their first pink-ball Test and have since participated in four such matches. And they last played a day-night Test was against Sri Lanka in March 2022, where they registered a convincing 238-run victory.
Kohli has been a part of all four pink-ball Tests, making him an integral figure in this format. With 277 runs at an average of 46.16, he is India’s leading run-scorer in day-night Tests and the only Indian batter to score a century in this format.
Kohli scored his maiden pink-ball Test century in India’s debut match in this format against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in November 2019. His commanding 136 off 194 balls, featuring 18 boundaries, was a masterclass in batting. This knock played a major role in helping India win by an innings and 46 runs.

In December 2020, during India’s last tour of Australia, the right-handed batter impressed in the first innings of the Adelaide Test with a fluent 74. However, his innings ended abruptly due to a mix-up with Ajinkya Rahane that led to a run-out. However, the match took a dramatic turn as India were bundled out for 36 in the second innings and lost the match by eight-wickets.
The Ahmedabad Test against England in February 2021 was another pink-ball match where Kohli scored 27 runs. Although his score wasn’t significant, the game turned out to be a historic one, with India winning a low-scoring contest within two days.
