Ajit Agarkar, one of India's finest all-rounders and a dependable pace bowler, turns 47 today. While Agarkar was a celebrated fast bowler, his exploits as a batter often went unnoticed. His few records with the bat are something even legend Sachin Tendulkar couldn't achieve in his glorious career.

Former Indian all-rounder and present chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar celebrates his 47th birthday today. During his 9-year-long career, the man had achieved numerous feats under his belt and played a stellar role in India's success in all formats of the game.

He holds the record for scoring the fastest fifty for India in ODI cricket, which he achieved in 21 balls against Zimbabwe. This remains unbeaten among Indian players to date, which reflects very clearly his ability to turn the game's tide even with the bat.

What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that it came from a player primarily recognised for his bowling skills. Notably, Agarkar also has a Test century at the home of cricket, Lord's, something Tendulkar hasn't been able to achieve.

Ajit Agarkar: The Complete All-Rounder

List of records achieved by Ajit Agarkar

  • 349 international wickets.
  • A Test Century at Lord's.
  • Fastest fifty for India in ODIs.
  • 3rd highest wicket taker for India in ODIs.
  • 2007 T20 World Cup winner

Ajit Agarkar was one of the versatile players for India during his career that lasted nearly over a decade. He is still India's third-highest wicket-taker in ODI with 288 wickets.

He also made some unforgettable contributions, including the historic Test victory by India at Adelaide in 2003 when he took a match-winning six-wicket-haul in the second innings. Agarkar also scored a century at the world-famous Lords Cricket Ground and was a part of the winning team of the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Ajit Agarkar closed the curtains on his cricketing career on the field and shifted to administration. He serves Indian cricket to the best of his capability as the chairman of the BCCI-appointed selection committee.
