No Russell, Hetmyer & Powell As West Indies Announce Squad For T20I Series Vs South Africa

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad for the three-game T20I series against South Africa, set to take place in Jamaica ahead of the T20 World Cup. 

With Rovman Powell absent, Brandon King will lead the West Indies team in home series vs South Africa. The series is scheduled to begin on May 23rd. 

IPL stars misses out in WI squad

The  WI vs SA T20I series will clash dates with the playoffs of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). 

As a result, some star West Indies players, like Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer, who play for the Rajasthan Royals, are not included in the squad. KKR's Andre Russell & RCB's Alzarri Joseph are also absent from the announced squad.

Nicholas Pooran & Shai Hope of LSG has also been excluded even though LSG is out of the IPL 2024.  Both the players are granted rest after the tight IPL season. 

However Romario Shepherd of Mumbai Indians is included in the team to face South Africa. 

West Indies team for the SA T20 series

Brandon King will lead the West Indies side, with Roston Chase as the vice-captain. 

Hayden Walsh Jr., Fabian Allen, Alick Athanaze, Andre Fletcher, Matthew Forde, and Obed McCoy, who missed out on the World Cup squad, will replace the IPL-bound stars in the series against South Africa.

West Indies squad: Brandon King (C), Roston Chase (VC),Romario Shepherd, Shamar Joseph,  Akeal Hossain,  Gudakesh Motie, Hayden Walsh Jr., Fabian Allen, Alick Athanaze, Jason Holder, Andre Fletcher, Matthew Forde, Obed McCoy, Kyle Mayers and Johnson Charles.
