In the significant news, MS Dhoni is still unsure about his participation in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After leading CSK to five IPL titles over the past 17 seasons, Dhoni was widely expected to retire following the 2024 campaign. 

However, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter has yet to state his future. According to the reports of Cricbuzz, Dhoni is scheduled to meet CSK executives in Mumbai in mid-October, where he will likely convey his final decision regarding the upcoming season. 

“Chennai Super Kings continue to maintain that MS Dhoni’s participation in the upcoming season is still not final, and key officials from the franchise will meet with him before making a decision,” the report stated.

Will MS Dhoni Play In Ipl 2025 As An Uncapped Player? 

It is also important to mention that, the recent rule change introduced by the BCCI adds to the uncertainty surrounding MS Dhoni’s future. 

Ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction, the board announced that a previously capped Indian player could be considered 'uncapped' if they have not played international cricket in the last five years or do not hold a central contract with the BCCI. 

Given that Dhoni last played international cricket in the 2019 World Cup and is no longer centrally contracted, the new rule would allow CSK to retain him under the 'uncapped' category, potentially opening the door for his return in IPL 2025 at a lower cost. 

This uncapped player rule has not only sparked debate but has also reignited hopes among CSK fans who are eager to see Dhoni don the yellow jersey once more. 

While some cricket experts have lauded the BCCI’s decision as a step toward creating more flexibility in team compositions, others have questioned whether the rule was implemented with Dhoni specifically in mind.
