Mohammad Amir isn’t one to mince his words. Whether it is his explosive spells on the field or brutally honest interviews off it, the left-arm pacer knows how to make headlines.
And in his latest chat with Geo News, Amir let it all out, from his no-nonsense mindset on the pitch to feeling abandoned by the Pakistan Cricket Board after the T20 World Cup.
Mohammd Amir On Mental Aggression In Cricket
Forget soft handshakes and smiling at the batter after a good shot, Mohammad Amir’s cricketing mantra is old-school.
“If someone hits a shot off my first ball, I’m not going to go hug him—I’ll obviously say something to him to throw him off focus,” he said.
According to Amir, the golden era of cricket was built on raw, intense, in-your-face competition. He even name-dropped the great Sir Vivian Richards and hinted at how fierce the game used to be.
“Back then, it felt like someone might actually hit you with the bat on the field.”
However, Amir’s not about sledging for cheap thrills—he believes in controlled aggression.
“If I use inappropriate language, the umpire will catch me, and the match referee will fine me. But if no one is penalizing me, it means I’m being aggressively controlled.”
“No One Talked to Me After the World Cup”: Amir
While Amir suited up for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, it came at a cost. literally.
“When I came to play in the World Cup, I left my county contract. Whatever I played in the World Cup, I ended up spending more money myself. My trainer traveled with me, and I bore all those expenses personally.”
But what stung even more than the out-of-pocket costs was the radio silence from the PCB.
“After the T20 World Cup ended, no one even talked to me, no one told me about any plans. A wise man needs no further explanation. If I’m not in the plan, then I have to think about myself. Now I’ve made up my mind — thank you very much to international cricket.”
Quetta Gladiators’ Mixed PSL 2025 Campaign
Quetta Gladiators have played three matches so far in PSL 2025 and have won just one. Now back with Quetta Gladiators, Amir believes the team is clicking at the right time.
The batting’s been a concern upfront, but the bowling unit is firing and with Mark Chapman joining, the middle order has got that extra muscle. They will next take on Karachi Kings in Match 15 on Friday, April 25 in Lahore.
