According to emerging reports, legendary Indian batter Rohit Sharma is all set to be named as the face of T20 Mumbai League. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) will host the tournament after the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
MCA Makes T20 Mumbai League Participation Mandatory For Star Players
As reported by the Indian Express, the MCA has made it mandatory for all its players to feature in the T20 Mumbai League. While Rohit Sharma will be the face of the league, the governing body has urged marquee players like Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Dube, Shreyas Iyer and Shardul Thakur to participate in the tournament.
However, the MCA has maintained that these players can skip the T20 Mumbai League if they sustain a last-minute injury or get selected for India's upcoming England tour, which kickstarts right after the IPL.
“All Mumbai’s Indian players have been informed that they have to play the T20 Mumbai League which will begin after the IPL. It’s mandatory, unless those, who have India commitment or injury issues they can skip," a MCA official was quoted as saying by Express Sports.
The report also states that the MCA will pay an additional amount of INR 15 lakhs as appearance fees apart from the money they will receive in the auction.
Notably, around 2800 players, including local cricketers, have registered for the T20 Mumbai League auction. However, the association has yet to finalise the base prices of the players.
The T20 Mumbai League will be an eight-team competition, with the MCA adding two more sides to the tournament. It will likely be held from May 26 to June 5 after the conclusion of IPL 2025.
