In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to revamp the Indian coaching setup, firing some existing support staff amid the team's Test slump. Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar is reported to be the front-runner among the three shortlisted names, who are likely to be shown the exit door.

Abhishek Nayar Set To Be Fired For BGT Debacle

Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian Test side incurred a humiliating 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year. The BCCI bosses were displeased at India's prolonged underwhelming performance, as Rohit's men managed a solitary win across eight Test matches while also suffering a disastrous whitewash on home soil.

The BCCI conducted a review meeting right after India's terrible performance on the Australian soil.

According to The Hindustan Times, Nayar had a fall out with one of the powerful members of the support staff, who openly criticised him in the meeting, accusing him of not bringing the best of the results as an assistant coach.

As a result, the board eventually added Sitanshu Kotak to the Indian support staff as an additional batting coach. The BCCI secretary Mr Devajit Saikia has neither approved nor denied the development, stating,

"Certain things are being finalised. You will receive a press note from BCCI in some days,"

T Dilip And Soham Desai To Be Replaced

Meanwhile, India's fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai are also set to leave the team after serving for their regular tenure of three years. The report claims that the BCCI is keen to bring in India's first ever Strength and Conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux for a second stint as Desai's replacement.
