Rajasthan Royals' star Riyan Parag became the latest player to fall foul of the BCCI’s newly introduced bat gauge test during the clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Parag joined the list of players that already include players like Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje.

Why Was Riyan Parag Forced To Change His Bat?

The incident occurred during Rajasthan's chase against Delhi Capitals. With captain Sanju Samson retiring hurt in the sixth over after an awkward stroke that led to a painful injury. Parag was called in as the replacement.

However, before he could take guard, he was stopped by the on-field umpires for a routine check of his bat.

Parag’s bat failed to pass the gauge test. The visibly irritated batter was seen engaging in an animated discussion with the umpire, expressing frustration at the sudden equipment rejection. Eventually, he was forced to switch his bat, halting the game momentarily. Watch the video here:

Why Did BCCI Introduce Gauge Test In IPL 2025?

The BCCI introduced the bat gauge rule ahead of IPL 2025 as part of efforts to level the playing field between batters and bowlers, especially in a format heavily tilted in favour of aggressive batting.

According to the new rule, each batter's bat will be examined with a standard gauge to ensure it complies with prescribed dimensions. The fourth umpire checks the openers’ bats before the match begins, while the on-field umpires handle checks for all incoming batters.
