England have suffered a massive blow in their quest to reach the WTC finale. Their regular Test skipper, Ben Stokes, who will miss the first Test Vs Pakistan, is also doubtful for the second game as well.

Stokes, was named the captain of the England side when the squad was announced for the Pakistan tour. However, on Saturday, it was confirmed that Stokes will miss the first Test due to the recurring hamstring issues, which has been troubling him for almost two-years.

It was widely speculated that Stokes had recovered from his knee issue, which relapsed during The Hundred 2024 competition, however, the visitors were jolted with the massive news that the attacking captain will miss the first Test in Multan, and is now doubtful for th second Test as well.

“Not sure,” came the reply when asked about his chances for the second of the three Tests to be played out here before the end of the month.

“I’ve pushed myself incredibly hard and worked really hard with the medical team to get to where I’m at now. I think I’m further ahead than what we expected. I’ll be working just as hard over the next 10 days to try to get myself fit for the second Test.”

England eye impossible mission to reach WTC finale

England have 6 Tests left in the WTC cycle 2023-25, and need to win all the matches to have an outside chance of qualifying for the finale. However, the task is not that easy.

Even if they win all the 6 Tests, England have to rely on other results to sneak into the WTC finale. For the mission impossible of reaching the WTC finals, England need Stokes back, and at his best.
