With the IPL 2025 mega auction just around the corner, cricket fans are buzzing with excitement. As teams prepare to release their list of retained players by the October 31 deadline, rumors are circulating about two prominent wicketkeeper-batters — KL Rahul from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Dhruv Jurel from Rajasthan Royals — likely entering the auction pool.

According to IPL’s updated retention rules, each team can hold onto a maximum of six players using a mix of direct retention and the Right to Match (RTM) option. Out of these six slots, only five can be capped players (a mix of Indian and overseas talent), and no more than two can be uncapped players. These new regulations have added a layer of strategy for the franchises as they decide who to keep and who to let go.

KL Rahul has been a key player for LSG since the franchise’s debut in 2022, amassing 1,410 runs across 38 matches. Despite his solid performances, inside sources suggest he is inclined to re-enter the auction pool, giving him a chance to explore new opportunities.

“There has been a strong word going around that Rahul really wants to enter the mega auction, as LSG may not retain him. Based on the outcomes from various discussions in terms of who will be retained or what price the retentions would be, one shouldn’t be surprised if Rahul enter the auction list,” an insider revealed.

Rahul’s journey in the IPL has seen him play for teams like Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bangalore before joining LSG. His experience as a leader and a dependable wicketkeeper-batter makes him a hot commodity, and several teams are expected to show interest if he becomes available.

Dhruv Jurel Likley To Enter IPL 2025 Mega Auction

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals’ young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel is also rumored to enter the auction. Jurel has made a promising start in the IPL, scoring 347 runs in 27 matches since his debut in 2023. Despite Rajasthan’s reported efforts to retain him, sources indicate that Jurel may have declined their offer.

A senior Rajasthan Royals official was recently spotted in Bengaluru, where the Indian team is playing, fueling speculation that the franchise is still negotiating with Jurel. However, if the talks fall through, the 24-year-old could be another exciting name to watch out for in the auction, especially with franchises always on the lookout for young Indian talent.
