Team India experienced one of its most shocking batting collapses on home soil, being bowled out for just 46 runs in the first innings of the first Test against New Zealand. The situation was so dire that it invited sharp criticism, including some humorous digs from former head coach Ravi Shastri during commentary.

When India-New Zealand's first Test's play finally kicked off on Day 2 after a washout on Day 1, Indian fans were in for a shocker as Rohit Sharma's questionable decision to bat first on a nightmarish wicket resulted in a 46-run collapse. As many as five batters departed for a duck, with Rishabh Pant being the highest scorer with 20 off 49 balls.

Ravi Shastri's humorous jibe on India's duck trio!

46/10 is the lowest total recorded by India on its home turf as New Zealand continues to dominate in the first Test ongoing at Bengaluru. Having said that, the unwarranted collapse led to intense criticism, with commentator Ravi Shastri also joining the party through the commentary panel.

While analysing the match, Shastri referred to the scorecard as a "duck party," noting the unusual number of zeroes on the board.

"When you see that scorecard, you think there will be a duck party happening there. Five ducks!" he said.

Not only that, when Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan and KL Rahul were fielding in slips, Shastri revealed how all the slip fielders share a duck in common.

"It's unheard of in India - lowest score, the team has been bowled out for 46. All three standing in slips, all out for ducks."

His multiple comments reflected the magnitude of India's failure to read the pitch and cope with the opposition's bowling attack, which is a largely uncommon sight to witness.

Anil Kumble against Kohli's promotion to no.3

After a humiliating 46-run collapse against New Zealand, former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble strongly criticised India's batting approach, especially questioning the decision to have Virat Kohli bat at number three. He also noted the absence of a stabilising force like Cheteshwar Pujara at number three. According to Kumble, Pujara's defensive style and patience could have helped India navigate the tricky conditions.
