The name Joe Root has history written all over it, and a testament to this statement is his beyond brilliant performance during the first Test between England and Pakistan in Multan. The former England captain did miss out on a worthy triple hundred, however his ton and double ton were the highlight of the game alongside Harry Brook's masterclass.

Batting for 601 minutes to be exact in the scorching heat of Multan, Root achieved his career best score of 261 runs as he stitched up a 454-run partnership with Harry Brook in England's first innings. 

However, in the 137th over Salman Ali Agha unleashed a gentle off-break delivery, pitching it right on the stumps. Joe Root, looking to manipulate the ball, stayed back and attempted to work it across the line. Unfortunately, he misjudged the delivery, missing the inside edge and getting struck on the pads in front of the stumps. This marked the end of his impressive innings and a significant partnership.

By this time, Root was visibly fatigued, with his match kit and undergarments completely soaked in sweat. In a light-hearted response to his discomfort, Root decided to remove his gear and dried it under the sun.
