Jason Gillespie has decided to take legal action against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over not clearing his dues for his services as the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Gillespie was appointed as Pakistan’s head coach in Test cricket back in April last year. However, he was also named as a temporary white-ball coach following the pre-mature exit of Gary Kirsten.
As it turned out, the former Australian fast bowler tendered as resignation as Pakistan coach in December 2024, citing miscommunication with the PCB officials.
Jason Gillespie refers matters to ICC
Earlier this month, Jason Gillespie claimed that his salary has not been fully cleared by the PCB for his time as the Pakistan head coach. The following day, the PCB denied Gillespie’s claims and stated that the former Australian fast bowler owns the board instead for resigning without serving his mandatory four-month notice period.
The 50-year-old former cricketer has now decided to take legal action against the PCB. According to reports, he has already referred the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC). However, it is unclear if the ICC has the authority to mediate the dispute.
Jason Gillespie’s relations with the PCB soured late last year, when he was removed from the selection panel. He was also not selected to coach the Pakistani team on their tour of South Africa, with Aaqib Javed accompanying the team instead as an interim coach.
Gillespie tendered his resignation in mid-December last year after he was informed by assistant Tim Nielsen that the PCB will not be renewing his contract.
Nonetheless, in Gillespie’s absence, the Pakistan team went on to lose the Test series in South Africa, failed to win the ODI tri-series at home against South Africa and New Zealand, and failed to qualify for the semifinals of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
