Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be facing Delhi in the 55th match of IPL 2022. While CSK’s campaign for the season is virtually over, they will look to win their remaining games and walk out of the tournament with respect.
In their subsequent encounter against Delhi, the biggest obstacle for the Men in Yellow will be David Warner. The Australian southpaw has been an essential cog in Delhi’s batting. However, it is pretty evident that he will take the match away from the team if he gets settled.
Let us look at his performance in IPL 2022.
IPL 2022: In IPL 2022, Warner has scored 356 runs in 8 matches in the tournament so far. He averages 59.33 in the contest, and his strike rate is an impressive 156.83. Delhi will mainly depend on him for their batting efforts, and CSK needs to see his back as quickly as possible.
Moving further ahead, we will be looking at how he fares against the different types of bowling in the powerplays.
David Warner vs Different bowling types
Plan Against Warner: As the table suggests, Warner has no visible weakness against a particular type of bowling. So, the only way to stop him, in my opinion, is to suffocate him for runs.
The CSK bowlers should look to bowl at Warner’s body. Cramp him and don’t give him width, and the length has to be around the good length spot. Anything too short or too full or anything that provides him room will be murdered by the south-paw.
So, a wicket-to-wicket line and bowling around the excellent length can keep him quiet for some time. If the runs dry up, he may look to do something out of the ordinary, and that may result in his wicket.
Another plan against Warner can be not providing him with enough pace. Being an Australian, he is a great player of pace bowling, and much unlike other Aussies, he is also a good player of spin.
So, an ideal plan for him could be the pace bowlers not providing enough pace to work with. The main option for this task will be Dwaine Pretorius. If Warner is not dismissed early, Pretorius should be introduced into the attack and asked to bowl slower through the air.
