In a significant development, India were knocked out of the Women's T20 World Cup following New Zealand's one-sided victory over Pakistan at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India Women, after their narrow defeat against Australia, needed Pakistan to thump the White Ferns in order to enter the next round. But, unfortunately for Harmanpreet Kaur and co, Pakistan Women surrendered to a rampant New Zealand side, losing the high-profile clash by 54 runs.

NZ-W vs PAK-W: Here's What Happened

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand Women had a cautious start to their innings, with Georgia Plimmer and Suzie Bates adding 41 runs for the first wicket. However, Nashra Sandhu pushed them on the back foot, scalping three crucial wickets in the middle overs.

Despite Pakistan Women's disciplined bowling effort, the White Ferns huffed and puffed to 110 for six in 20 overs, thanks to useful cameos from Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday. However, the second half of the game was all about New Zealand Women's dominance, as they displayed remarkable skills to dismantle Pakistan for a mere 56-run total.

Amelia Kerr was New Zealand's wrecker-in-chief with the ball, scalping three wickets for 14 runs. With this thumping win, the White Ferns joined their Trans-Tasman rivals Australia in the semis as the second team from Group A.

India's Journey In Women's T20 World Cup 2024

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women had a forgettable start to their Women's T20 World Cup campaign, losing the opening match by 58 runs. Although they made a remarkable comeback, securing clinical wins over Pakistan and Sri Lanka Women, a heartbreaking defeat against the defending champions made them pray for Pakistan's victory to stay alive in the tournament.

Skipper Harmanpreet and Renuka Singh Thakur were the only shining lights for India in an otherwise disastrous journey, while Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh let them down with their poor batting returns.
