Kolkata Knight Riders mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy isn't too bothered with the slow start he has had to his IPL 2022 campaign.
Chakravarthy spearheaded KKR's bowling in the past two seasons but has managed just four wickets in his first five games of the ongoing season.
Chakravarthy is well aware that batters will ultimately work him out, and to counter them, The Tamil Nadu cricketer is working on adding a new dimension to his bowling.
When asked about the new variation, Chakravarthy said he is working on leg spin.
"It is bound to happen, and people will have plans against me. Last year in the Indian leg, I had six to seven wickets in seven matches. Later on, I picked up more wickets, so you cannot predict how many wickets you will get," Chakravarthy said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
"I am working on a new variation which I am looking forward to bowl more. It will definitely add a new dimension to my game."
"I am working on a leg-spin (variation). I have been working for it for the last two years. I have bowled in a few matches, and I have also got a wicket out of that," he added.
The right-arm spinner added that he needs to get a 'little more confident' before he starts to dish it out on a regular basis.
"I need to be a little more confident (bowling the new variation) and start bowling it more," he said.
After a long layoff, Chakravarthy made his comeback to competitive cricket with the IPL. However, he was last featured in the T20 World Cup, post which he suffered a calf injury.
"I was at the NCA for the treatment of my injury. Now it is resolved very well. I could take the field without any painkiller. So, I am feeling fitter, which has helped me bowl a lot better." he said.
When asked about the adjustments he makes while bowling on a flat pitch, the KKR tweaker said, Stick to your basic plan, stick to your strength rather than focus on the batters. So, to change the mental set-up."
KKR will hope that their talismanic spinner regains his form of the last two seasons in the upcoming fixtures.
