The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the fixtures of the forthcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in India on Tuesday, which is almost three months away from now. Last edition’s finalists England and New Zealand will play the opening game on October 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Team India will start their campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai and set to come up against arch-rivals Pakistan for the high octane clash on October 15 in Ahmedabad.

As a fan, if you are planning to attend any World Cup match in the coming October, you might need to look after your staying arrangements from right now. Yes, following the announcement of the fixtures for the World Cup, the rates of Hotel rooms in the city have gone sky high.

The most significant case is in the city of Ahmedabad, with the biggest game of the tournament, India vs Pakistan being scheduled to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

There is no doubt there will be a packed stadium in an India-Pakistan World Cup match regardless of the place, venue or timing. People from around the globe will travel to Ahmedabad to watch the once in a life-time game and this time at the biggest cricket venue in the world with a capacity of over a lakh.

This has had a direct impact on hotel prices in the city. Despite the tickets are yet to be sold, hotel room rates on various hotel booking websites have gone up nearly 10 times the normal rate, with few of them charging close to Rs 1 Lakh, while many are already sold out for the match day.

Normally, the luxury hotel rooms cost around ten thousand in the city of Ahmedabad but it has now jumped to Rs 40,000 and over Rs 1 Lakh at some places, for October 15th. The Hoteliers are also unlikely to leave this golden opportunity to capitalize on the high demand as the city is set to host a lot of people on that particular weekend in the month of October.
