Cricket Association of Bengal's President Snehashish Ganguly has stated that the preparations are in full flow at the Eden Gardens for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

The marquee event will take place across 10 venues in India, including Kolkata, between October 05-November 2019.

Speaking to ANI, Ganguly revealed that the preparations for the 2023 World Cup started immediately after the culmination of the Indian Premier League, with the renovation of the  stadium and corporate boxes.

He also added that the preparations of the square will commence from July onwards.

"Preparations have started. We started preparations after IPL for the World Cup. We are renovating the stadium, corporate boxes. Ground conditions are excellent. Preparations will start from July 1 for the ground. We had a meeting with our curator. Eden Gardens is ready to host the World Cup. There are some patches here and there, within the next two months, we will resolve all those issues," said Ganguly to ANI.

For the uninitiated, Eden Gardens, Kolkata, will play hosts to 5 matches in the 2023 World Cup, including one of the two semi-final fixtures.

They will host Bangladesh v Qualifier 01 on October 28 followed by Pakistan v Bangladesh on October 31, India v South Africa on November 05 followed by defending champions England locking horns with Pakistan on November 12.

It will also play hosts to the 2nd semi-final, which will take place on November 16. If India qualify for the semis, and their opponents happen to be Pakistan, then that game will take place at the Eden Gardens.

Eden Gardens has previously hosted the final of the 1987 event, and the semi-final of the 1996 edition. It did not host any game involving India in the 2011 event.
