GT Announce Dasun Shanaka As Injured Glenn Phillips' Replacement For IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans, the winners of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League have officially announced Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as replacement of Glenn Phillips for the remainder of IPL 2025. Shanaka was part of the GT squad in 2023 IPL, and his addition provide the one-time champions with extra seam-bowling all-rounder option.

Dasun Shanaka Makes IPL Comeback After 2023 GT Stint

Glenn Phillips had a superb Champions Trophy 2025, and was expected to play a big role with his all-round skills in the ongoing IPL. However, GT did not include him in the playing XI in any of their games and was seen only in the field as a substitue fielder. Unfortunately for GT, the Kiwi, known for his acrobatic fielding, and 100 percent commitment on the field suffered a groin injury during the 19th game of the season between GT and SRH which ruled him out of the entire tournament.

His replacement Dasun Shanaka is also an experienced international cricketer who has also led Sri Lanka in the past. In the three games he played for GT in IPL 2023, the all-rounder managed to score just 26 runs, but is a power-hitter known for his ability to hit big in crunch situations, and could play a crucial role for GT going forward. Overall, Dasun Shanaka has close to 5000 T20 runs and 91 wickets in his kitty.

Also, apart from Glenn Phillips, GT are also without their first-choice overseas pacer, Kagiso Rabada who has flown back to South Africa due to personal reasons. Shubman Gill's unit though has done well so far, and have four wins out of their six matches which has put them on a comfortable second position in the IPL 2025 points table.
