Finlay Bean, Yorkshire’s 2nd XI batter scores 441 runs against Nottinghamshire

Records plundered in Nottingham as Yorkshire's Finlay Bean notched up an incredible 441 against Nottinghamshire in the ongoing Second XI Championship game. The former England Under-19 wicketkeeper-batsman broke an all-time national record, as he surpassed Marcus Trescothick's 322 runs for Somerset from 25 English summers ago.

Bean faced 518 balls in his innings and struck 52 of them in boundaries. He also clubbed three sixes during his marathon 12-hour stay at the crease. The herculean batting effort by the 20-year-old finally came to an end when he was clean bowled by Nottinghamshire's leg-spinner Calvin Harrison.

The youngster's knock powered his side to an imposing total of 814-7d, thus enjoying a 280-run first-innings lead over Nottinghamshire's 534.

Surprisingly, before Bean's 441, he had never previously scored a hundred in competitive cricket. His previous best batting score in the competition was his 72 from earlier this month.

Through his run-fest at Nottingham, the young opening batter has also become the first-ever cricketer from Yorkshire's Second XI side to score triple and quadruple centuries. Previously, Richard Blakey charted 273* in the English summer of 1986. Remarkably, Blakey's effort also came against the same opponents.

After the close of play, Yorkshire Second XI coach Tom Smith had a word with BBC Sport. Smith, praising Bean's batting display, said: "He's been on the field for every single ball of the match, and it's not just his skill that's been impressive, it's been his concentration levels as well.

Personally, I've never seen 365 runs scored in a game before. It's been outstanding."
