England fast bowler Freya Davies has called time on her 15-year professional cricket career at the age of 29 to embark on a new path as a trainee solicitor. The Sussex product made her international debut in a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo back in 2019 and last represented her country in 2023.

Davies' praise-worthy career

Her decision brings the curtain down on a distinguished playing journey that saw her become a mainstay in the domestic circuit and earn 35 international caps.

During her career, Freya Davies was a pivotal figure for several domestic sides, most notably helping Sussex to a County Championship title in 2013. A proven wicket-taker, she topped the charts in the 2019 Women’s Cricket Super League with 19 dismissals.

Her final competitive appearance was for Hampshire in the One-Day Cup final just last month, capping off a tournament where she claimed 19 wickets.

Davies hailed as she begins legal chapter

Reflecting on her transition, the cricketing body wished her well for the future. “Best of luck to Freya Davies, who made 35 appearances for England as she retires from Cricket to become a solicitor. All the best for the future, Freya!” England Cricket wrote in a statement.

Her international career spanned from 2019 to 2023, yielding 33 wickets across ODIs and T20Is, including a best of four-wicket haul. Domestically, she also made a significant impact in The Hundred, taking 36 wickets in 37 appearances for teams like London Spirit and Welsh Fire.

Off the field, Davies has been diligently preparing for her next chapter, having already completed a Legal Practice Course (LPC) and an LLM. Her move into law marks a purposeful shift, ensuring she concludes her sporting journey on a high note after a final season where she remained a potent force with the ball.
