Sourav Ganguly, the former BCCI President, has been re-appointed as the President of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Upon his appointment, Ganguly expressed positivity, stating that he will continue to do what is best for cricket in West Bengal.
Notably, Sourav Ganguly was re-elected unopposed on Monday, replacing his brother Snehasish Ganguly, who served in the role for three years.
Ganguly shares excitement for role
Speaking about his return to the role to ANI, Ganguly shared his excitement and emphasised his focus on nurturing and developing cricketing talent in Bengal.
"I have worked as a President for 5 years before this as well. We will do what is best. There is an immense craze for cricket in India. There is a lot of talent. It will be our work to give direction to this talent," Ganguly said.
Ganguly had previously served as the President of the BCCI from 2019 to 2022. Earlier this year, he was also re-appointed as Chairman of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee. Now, the “Prince of Kolkata” has returned to dedicate his efforts to the welfare of cricket in his home state.
Additionally, Sourav extended his congratulations to Mithun Manhas on becoming the new BCCI President.
"I congratulate him as it is a very big post. Being the President of the richest and most skilled board, the cricketers who play for India are an unbelievable talent. It is a huge responsibility to manage and guide them. I hope he will work really well along with his team," Ganguly added.
Ganguly confident on India's Asia Cup chances
Amid the administrative hustle and bustle, Sourav Ganguly also lauded India’s massive win over Pakistan and expressed confidence in the team’s chances in the ongoing Asia Cup.
"India is a very good team. We have a good chance to win (Asia Cup). I hope we will play well," Ganguly concluded.
With India's next Asia Cup Super Four match staged against Bangladesh on September 24, the Men in Blue look well poised with their spot for the Final if they bag another win to make it 2 in 2.
