In a significant development, CSK have signed South Africa’s rising star Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. 

Dewald Brevis To Replace Injured Gurjapneet Singh

The young batting sensation, often referred to as “Baby AB” due to his resemblance in style to AB de Villiers, have joined the five-time IPL champions for INR 2.2 Crore. CSK were able to rope in the explosive right-hander as they had one overseas slot in their squad.

It is important to mention that Dewald Brevis made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023. The star player has featured in 81 T20 matches across various leagues, and made 1,787 runs. 

"Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa's Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Dewald Brevis has played 81 T20s and scored 1787 runs with a highest score of 162. He made his T20I Debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played 2 T20Is so far. Brevis was previously part of Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches. He will join CSK for INR 2.2 Crore," the IPL said in an official statement.

The South African batting prodigy was previously associated with Mumbai Indians (MI). Brevis, who made 10 appearances for MI in the IPL, also continues to feature for the franchise in SA20 and MLC.

Dewald Brevis will be a crucial player for CSK as they will aim to revamp their middle order heading into the second half of the tournament. Known for his fearless batting and innovative stroke play, Brevis is expected to add a much-needed boast to CSK's lineup.
