Ruturaj Gaikwad’s replacement, Ayush Mhatre has joined CSK camp ahead of the upcoming IPL 2025 clash vs Mumbai Indians. Mhatre impressed Chennai’s coaching staff in his first net session as he hit fine shots with confidence.

CSK got a huge blow amid a series of losses as captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 IPL season due to an elbow fracture. While MS Dhoni stepped up to assume the role of captain, CSK called up a young sensation from Mumbai to fill Gaikwad’s shoes in the batting lineup.

Earlier this week, Chennai formally added 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Ayush Mhatre Gets Ready To Take On MI In IPL 2025

As CSK gears up to face MI at Wankhede Stadium on April 20, Ayush Mhatre joined the camp in a yellow jersey and featured in his first official net session.

The batter kissed the ground, had a chat with coach Stephen Fleming and showcased his range of shots.

Mhatre, who has 504 runs from nine first-class matches (including two centuries and a fifty) and 458 runs in seven List A games with two hundred, impressed CSK selectors during a recent trial.

His aggressive, attacking approach could bring much-needed heat to a CSK team that has looked listless and inconsistent throughout the season.

Chennai Rope In Dewald Brevis To Boost Batting Depth

In a mid-season blockbuster signing, Chennai Super Kings have roped in South African sensation Dewald Brevis as cover for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh for the balance of IPL 2025.

Often hailed as “Baby AB” for his resemblance to AB de Villiers in stroke-play and flair, Brevis joins CSK for a whopping INR 2.2 Crore, filling the only available overseas slot in the squad.

He was earlier part of Mumbai Indians (MI), playing 10 IPL matches, and continues to represent MI in SA20 and MLC.
