India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, has an exciting opportunity ahead as he prepares for the three-match Test series against New Zealand. The first Test will be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, starting on October 16, with subsequent matches taking place in Pune and Mumbai. Having recently guided India to a convincing victory against Bangladesh, Rohit is well-positioned to add more milestones to his illustrious career.

Here are five significant records that Rohit could break in the India-New Zealand Test series.

Rohit Sharma To Break Virender Sehwag’s Record

Rohit Sharma is just five sixes away from breaking the record for the most sixes hit by an Indian in Test cricket. Currently, he has 87 sixes in 61 Tests, while Virender Sehwag holds the record with 91 sixes from 104 matches. With Rohit’s aggressive batting style, fans can expect fireworks as he aims to claim this title.

First Indian To Score 1000 Runs In Two WTC Cycles

Rohit has already scored 742 runs in 11 matches during the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. If he manages to score at least 258 more runs in this series, he will become the first Indian to score 1000 runs across two WTC cycles.

Rohit Sharma To Become Most Successful Captain For India In WTC

Currently, Rohit has led India to 12 victories in 18 WTC matches. If he wins all three Tests against New Zealand, he will surpass Virat Kohli’s record to become India’s most successful captain in WTC history. Kohli won 14 out of 22 matches during his tenure, so this is a significant milestone for Rohit.

Rohit Set To Surpass Mohammad Azharuddin

Rohit is also on the verge of becoming India’s fourth-most successful Test captain. With 12 wins in 18 matches, he could surpass Mohammad Azharuddin, who won 14 out of 47 Tests. Furthermore, if India achieves a clean sweep against the Kiwis, Rohit will also break Sourav Ganguly’s record and become the fourth most successful Indian captain in international cricket.

Rohit Sharma To Become First Indian Batter To Score 3000 Runs

Lastly, Rohit has the chance to become the first Indian batter to score 3000 runs in WTC. He needs 406 runs in the three Tests against New Zealand to reach this milestone, and with 2594 runs in 34 matches so far, it’s an achievable target for the talented skipper.
