The stage is set for a high-octane clash as India Women take on their arch-rivals, Pakistan Women, in Match 7 of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, October 6, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Both teams are coming into this match with contrasting results in their opening games, making this encounter all the more exciting and crucial for the tournament’s dynamics.

India Women: A Need to Turn the Tide

India Women will be looking to bounce back after a disastrous start to their campaign, where they were outclassed by New Zealand Women by 58 runs. India’s bowlers were found wanting, unable to make early inroads as they conceded 55 runs in the powerplay without picking up a wicket.

Pooja Vastrakar, who bowled just one over, conceded 9 runs and wasn’t utilized later, which raised eyebrows. Renuka Singh provided some respite with two wickets, but she also leaked runs at the death, finishing with figures of 2/27 in her four overs.

Deepti Sharma, typically reliable, had a day to forget, going wicketless and conceding 45 runs in her full quota. Arundhati Reddy, though decent with 1/28, couldn’t stem the run flow effectively.

However, Asha Sobhana was the pick of the bowlers with 1/22 in her four, showing great control in the middle overs. The bowling unit will need to pull their socks up and find their rhythm with the new ball, especially if they want to keep Pakistan’s batting in check.

When it came to batting, India Women’s lineup crumbled like a house of cards. Openers Shafali Verma (2) and Smriti Mandhana (12) failed to provide a solid foundation, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s 15 was the highest individual score—a statistic that speaks volumes about their struggles.

Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma all failed to get going, and the batting collapse left them with more questions than answers. If India wishes to stay alive in the tournament, their batters need to step up and make their presence felt.

Pakistan Women: Riding High on Momentum

In contrast, Pakistan Women are riding high after a convincing 31-run win over Sri Lanka in their opening match. Pakistan’s batting wasn’t flawless, with openers Muneeba Ali, Gull Feroza, and Sidra Amin all failing to make a significant impact.

However, skipper Fatima Sana’s brisk 30 off 20 balls and Nida Dar’s composed 23 off 22 helped Pakistan post a competitive 116 on the board.

But it was their bowlers who stole the show. Sadia Iqbal’s excellent spell of 3/17 in her four overs, combined with Fatima Sana, Omaima Sohail, and Nashra Sandhu each grabbing two wickets, helped Pakistan bundle Sri Lanka out for just 85.

Pakistan’s bowling unit seems to be hitting its stride at the right time, and they will be eager to continue their momentum and upset their neighbours in what is a game of monumental proportions.

How Will the Dubai International Cricket Stadium Pitch Behave?

The Dubai International Cricket Stadium has shown itself to be a surface where runs are up for grabs if batters apply themselves. While pacers may get some assistance early on with the new ball, spinners will have to rely more on accuracy than turn to make an impact. Change of pace in the death over will also be key for speedsters. Overall, the surface is conducive for batting and we can expect both sides to come out all guns blazing with the bat .

IND-W vs PAK-W: Predicted Toss Result

A score north of 150 should be a winning total, and it’s likely that the team winning the toss will choose to bat first and capitalize on the conditions.
