CSK probable XI [Source: @Vibhor4CSK/x.com]
The last few days have been good for the struggling Chennai Super Kings (CSK). They defeated Lucknow Super Giants in their last IPL match and have now strengthened their batting by bringing in Proteas star batter Dewald Brevis for the remainder of the 2025 season.
The batting suddenly looks strong but their biggest test will be against the resurgent Mumbai Indians in their next IPL clash on Sunday. Both the sides will enter the match after winning matches, and the question is, can CSK beat MI twice in the season?. Ahead of the match, we look at their probable XI, with a potential debut on the cards?.
Dewald Brevis to make his CSK debut?
Brevis was drafted in by the Super Kings in their squad as a replacement player. His presence in the playing XI will strengthen the squad and the Proteas youngster could make his CSK debut against his former IPL side, Mumbai Indians on Sunday. He brings different dynamics in the playing XI and the stats tell the story.
Criterion | Data |
Matches | 81 |
Runs | 1787 |
Average | 26.27 |
Strike rate | 144.93 |
(Brevis stats in T20s)
A strike-rate of 144.93, with 1787 runs, Brevis is a future superstar and is not afraid to take risk with his batting and he could be the one to come in straightaway in the batting lineup Vs MI.
Who can Brevis replace?
Shaik Rasheed, who came in as a replacement for Devon Conway in the last match did well with the bat, and with him performing, the only logical choice is to bring in Brevis for out of touch Rahul Tripathi. Tripathi was brought in with a lot of hope, but his numbers have been quite underwhelming and against MI, he should be dropped.
Criterion | Data |
Matches | 5 |
Runs | 55 |
Average | 11.00 |
Strike rate | 96.49 |
(Tripathi IPL 2025 stats)
5 matches, 55 runs, and an average of just 11. The stats have been horrendous and Tripathi has looked woefully out of touch, and hence, it would be an easy choice for CSK to bring in Brevis for Tripathi.
Surprise package replaces Jamie Overton
With Rachin Ravindra, Brevis, Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana, CSK's four foreigners will be sorted, and thus, Jamie Overton, who had an average game against LSG might be dropped. In his place, CSK could bring in leg-spinner, Shreyas Gopal.
The wily spinner played for Mumbai Indians previously and knows the team at the back of his hands. Plus, leg-spinners tend to get more bounce at Wankhede since the pitch has a bit of extra bounce. Moreover, barring Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma, MI have all the right-handed batters and he can dominate them.
The rest of the lineup should remain the same for the MI clash.
CSK's probable XI Vs MI
Shaik Rasheed, Rachin Ravindra, Dewald Brevis, Vijay Shankar, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Shreyas Gopal, Noor Ahmad, Khaleel Ahmed, Matheesha Pathirana
Impact Subs: Rahul Tripathi, Jamie Overton, R Ashwin, Anshul Kamboj, Deepak Hooda.
