SS vs MR: Sydney Sixers

Three-time BBL winners Sydney Sixers will be led by Moises Henriques in the BBL 2024-25 season. He recovered from a groin injury to be fit for the tournament. In addition, Ben Dwarshuis and Daniel Hughes also beat respective injury issues to feature in the final squad.

Last season, the Sixers lost their opportunity to clinch a fourth title by a whisker as they lost to the Brisbane Heat in the finals. Regardless, the Sixers have been one of the most consistent sides in BBL and will definitely start as favourites.

SS vs MR: Melbourne Renegades

Melbourne Renegades will enter the BBL 2024-25 season with a new captain, Will Sutherland. Jake Fraser McGurk and Laurie Evans will be key to setting up competitive totals. Meanwhile, Adam Zampa and Tim Seifert will continue to lead the bowling attack.

Amongst some notable absentees is Jacob Bethell, who is busy playing for England in the ongoing Test series against New Zealand. Last year, the Renegades had a nightmarish season as they finished eight on the table with six points in 10 games. Hence, heading into the new season, Melbourne will seek redemption and a much fresher start.

SS vs MR: Pitch Report

The SCG pitch will be a balanced surface, offering something for both batters and bowlers. Traditionally, the pitch starts out favoring batters with true bounce and consistent pace, making it a high-scoring venue. However, as the game progresses, spinners come into play due to the slight turn and grip the surface provides.

Moreover, the SCG has relatively short square boundaries, which entice batters to target those areas. Weather conditions and dew can also influence play, especially in night games, making chasing slightly easier. Hence, winning the toss often leads to teams opting to chase.
