On Monday night, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) finally broke their losing streak with a thrilling five-wicket win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. The game, held at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, saw an explosive performance from the legendary MS Dhoni, who turned back the clock with a vintage finish.

MS Dhoni Shines In Run Chase

Chasing a target of 167, CSK found themselves in a tight spot before Dhoni walked in to partner Shivam Dube. With just 11 balls faced, Dhoni smashed an unbeaten 26 runs, including four boundaries and a six, guiding CSK to a much-needed win. His powerful knock not only helped seal the game but also earned him the Player of the Match award.

Despite his match-winning performance, Dhoni was genuinely surprised to receive the award. In his trademark humble style, he praised young spinner Noor Ahmad, who also had a solid outing with the ball.

“Even today I was like, ‘Why are they giving me the award?’ I feel Noor bowled really well. With the new ball and when Noor and Jaddu bowled four-five overs together – these were the two phases where we did really well," Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.

Dhoni Becomes Oldest Player To Win POTM

With this performance, Dhoni also became the oldest player in IPL history to win the Player of the Match award, adding yet another feather to his already decorated cap.

It’s been a tough season for CSK so far. After winning their first match, they went on a five-match losing streak. Injuries added to their woes, with regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad being ruled out for the rest of the season due to an elbow injury. Dhoni stepped in to lead the team once again, and under his guidance, they finally found their rhythm.

This victory marked only CSK’s second win in seven games, but it was a morale-boosting one. With Dhoni leading from the front, fans are hoping this is the turning point of the season.
