In a heated turn of events, former Indian opening batter Gautam Gambhir and seamer S Sreesanth were spotted exchanging words between the overs on the field during the Eliminator match between the India Capitals and Gujarat Giants in the ongoing Legends League Cricket 2023 at Surat.
The incident took place after the powerplay, after Sreesanth completed the sixth over. Sreesanth looked unhappy towards Gambhir and got involved in a verbal altercation. The on-field umpires and Gujarat Giants’ skipper, Parthiv Patel, came midway before things got nasty.
Here is the video of the heated moment between Sreesanth and Gambhir
Earlier, Gambhir, who opened the batting for the Capitals, smashed Sreesanth for a six over midwicket and a boundary down the ground in consecutive balls in his first over. In reply, Sreesanth bowled two consecutive dot balls and did not hold himself back to exchange some words with Gambhir.
The southpaw looked in sublime form, and Sreesanth, who is known for his fiery character on the field, tried to diversify Gambhir’s focus with some words.
It did seem like Gambhir kept his calm and continued batting at that moment, but according to what Sreesanth revealed after the game in his Instagram live, Gambhir spoke about the things that he should not have, which led to Sreesanth losing his cool in the middle.
Sreesanth's Post-Match Revelation
The 2011 World Cup champion claimed that he and his family had suffered a lot in the past few years, and whatever Gambhir called him in a live cricket game, the word he used was not acceptable.
The 40-year-old further added that the Delhi-born cricketer is always fighting with former cricketers and doesn't respect his seniors as well. Gambhir has always been known for his controversial takeaways off the field, and Sreesanth just added fuel to the fire by stating his relationship with Virat.
“Even in live broadcasting, whenever he is asked about Virat, he speaks something else,” Sreesanth said.
Sreesanth concluded that he would try to make things public, which Gambhir said to him on the field. Both Sreesanth and Gambhir have played a lot together and have won World Cups for India in the past. They both have retired from international cricket and do commentary stints together.
