'Not 1990s': Gambhir Expresses Unhappiness Over KL Rahul's 107-Ball 64 In WC Knock

India's loss against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final still remains the hottest topic going around, as former players, fans, and critics dish out their reasons behind Rohit Sharma and Co.'s humiliating defeat.

Coming with ten consecutive wins under their belt, India displayed a timid batting display against Australia leading them to get all out for 240, which Cummins and Co. chased down without much hardship.

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has expressed his unhappiness over KL Rahul's batting, which blocked the flow of runs, during his stand with Virat Kohli.

Rahul scored 67 runs facing 109 balls and is facing backlash from all quarters for his slow-paced innings, which build pressure on the other end.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Gambhir, who worked with Rahul at Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League, pointed out that the latter should have been aggressive and not played the sheet anchor role with Kohli around.

Here's what Gambhir said

“Kohli had played a role of anchoring the innings, but the rest all should have been aggressive. KL (Rahul) should have gone. What harm would it have caused? We would have been 150 all out. But had we been brave, we could scored 310 and India would have been world champions. This is not the 1990s. 240 was not a good score at all. You needed 300-plus totals. India were not brave enough.”

In 11 matches, the LSG captain scored 452 runs in World Cup 2023, with one ton and two half-centuries. Meanwhile, Rahul has been rested for India's upcoming T20Is against Australia, with the selectors trying out youngsters.
